WordPress 2.9 finally out

WordPress 2.9 integrates built-in image editing features: crop, scale and rotate

With the new WordPress release 2.9, a lot of bugs were addressed and some more or less unspectacular features have been added.

But I would like to point out the huge improvement made to the Media Library, more particularly the image processing:

  • Scaling of original images
  • Custom image cropping
  • Independent cropping for thumbnails
  • Flipping and rotating

To try it out, go to your admin, choose Media > Library and select an image to edit. Then hit Edit Image. The rest is pretty straightforward.

Yes, there are also plugins which allow advanced image editing but they always created their own copies of images and were therefore not very well integrated and little useful for theme and plugin designers.

I am looking forward for the “core plugins” (or whatever they will be called) which will be plugins developed by a larger community, and tested ahead of each WordPress update. This will ensure more reliable high quality plugins.

Kudos to the team behind WordPress for choosing this direction!

I don’t hate trigonometry …

… but I like to kick some vectors

This is another sound visualizer I did over the weekend, inspired by Grégoire Divaret’s wonderful “lumineuses” published on 25lines.com

I was playing around with vectors and the sound spectrum. It is always amazing me to see art in progress, especially when music is painting and the chaotic outcome is kind of unpredictable…

IUEOA vol.1

IUEOA is a new magazine about culture & sustainability

A new magazine is showing up today on the streets of Luxembourg. Published by IUEOA a.s.b.l., the magazine is assisting this non-profit organization in delivering their message of sustainability and awareness of local culture.

The first issue is all about water. I am very delighted that my illustration has been selected as cover of this original magazine. I have also marginally assisted Sven Becker in the layout.

If you live in Luxembourg or surroundings, you may have heard that IUEOA’s 2nd event, recult vol 2 will be happening between October 16 and 25, this time in another building condemned for destruction.

Nixie Clock Design Ideas

These are some conceptual designs I have developed some time ago together with Daniel Kurth who is equally fascinated by analogue technology and drew my attention towards these old fashioned little tubes. Nixie tubes have been used in all types of numerical display before being replaced by the more modern LCD (Liquid Cristal Display). A nixie tube displays digits by emitting incandescent light. The main challenge in driving nixie clocks today resides in providing the required voltage.

Youtag.lu website launched

1Hello world! I am very excited to announce the launch of my new website.

At the same time, I have been working on a slide show engine used in the work section. showTime is written entirely in AS3 and pulls data from an XML file at run time. I plan to release showTime sometime this year as well as a plugin for easy integration into WordPress blogs. Stay tuned.

Here is an example:
